Phrase Structure Trees Bear More Fruit than You Would Have Thought

چکیده
We will also discuss other amendments to context-free grammars which increase the descriptive power but not the generative power. In particular, we will discuss the notion of categories with holes as recently introduced b y Gazdam [3]. There is an interesting history behind this notion. Sage~'s parser explieitly exploits such a convention and, in fact, uses it to do some coordinate st-ructnK-a computation. We suspect that some other parsers have this feature also, perhaps ~plicitly. We will discuss this matter, which obviously is of great interes~ to computational linguists.

Olives
What is an olive? Well, botanically speaking, the fruit of the olive tree is a drupe, or stone fruit, and is cultivated on all continents (Figure 1), but the olive is much more than a fruit — it’s a symbol. Olives and the trees that bear them are mentioned in The Odyssey, the Quran, the Torah, and the Bible, just to name a few. Representing peace, abundance, and victory, this divine fruit has i...

Treebanks is one of important and useful resource in Natural Language Processing tasks. Dependency and phrase structures are two famous kinds of treebanks. There have already made many efforts to convert dependency structure to phrase structure. In this paper we study an approach to convert dependency structure to phrase structure because of lack of a big phrase structure Treebank in Persian. A...
متن کاملParse disambiguation for a rich HPSG grammar
The fine-grained nature of the HPSG representations found in the Redwoods treebank raises novel issues in parse disambiguation relative to more traditional treebanks such as the Penn treebank, which have been the focus of most past work on probabilistic parsing (e.g., Charniak 1997; Collins 1997). The Redwoods treebank is much richer in the representations it makes available. Most similar to Pe...
متن کاملInfluence of 1-aminoethoxyvinylglycine hydrochloride and α-naphthalene acetic acid on fruit retention, quality, evolved ethylene, and respiration in apples
Effects of 1-aminoethoxyvinylglycine hydrochloride (AVG or Aviglycine HCl or ReTain) and α-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) on fruit retention, fruit quality, eveloved ethylene, and respiration in ‘Rome Beauty’ and three ‘Delicious’ apple cultivars (Malus domestica Borkh.) were studied. The experimental trees were treated with either AVG, applied at 120 g a.i. per 935 L. ha-1 or NAA, applied at t...

Title of dissertation: WITHOUT SPECIFIERS: PHRASE STRUCTURE AND EVENTS Terje Lohndal, Doctor of Philosophy, 2012 Dissertation directed by: Professor Paul M. Pietroski This dissertation attempts to unify two reductionist hypotheses: that there is no relational difference between specifiers and complements, and that verbs do not have thematic arguments. I argue that these two hypotheses actually ...
